Hon. Judge Deanne Wilson

Judge Deanne Wilson was sworn in as a Superior Court Judge on January 31, 1997. She sat in Morris and Sussex Counties in Chancery, Law, and Family Divisions. While in the Law Division, she was the vicinage judge designated to hear environmental issues. She has presided over several matters of national import, including a divorce/child abduction case involving the daughter of a foreign president, and a clergy child sex about case.

In August 2009, the was appointed Presiding Judge, Chancery Division, Morris and Sussex Counties. In that capacity, she presided over complex non-jury business litigation and other matters involving requests for emergent relief. She also heard matters emanating from the Surrogate’s Court, including Probate and Guardianship cases.

Judge Wilson has long been a supporter of the American Inns of Court movement. She served as a master in the Vanderbilt Inn, the Mountain Inn and as adjunct master in the Central N.J. Family Law Inn, as well las present of the Pollock Environmental Inn, for a total of 13 years of service.

She has been a frequent speaker for the National Center for State Courts, ICLE and the Morris and Essex County Bar Associations. In addition, she has acted as a discussion leader at the National Judicial College. She has authored articles on undue influence, irreparable injury, women attorneys in private law firms, and judicial involvement in settlement conferences. Judge Wilson has received ICLE’s Distinguished Service Award.

As an attorney, Judge Wilson was awarded the “AV” Martindale-Hubbell rating. She was a trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Chair of the NJSBA Women’s Right’s Section, Chair of the NJBSA Program Committee, a member of the ICLE Board of Directors, and Chair of the Equity Jurisprudence Committee of the Essex County Bar Association. She served an eight year term on the Supreme Court Civil Practice Committee, and also served multiple terms on the Supreme Court Committees on Special Civil Part and Women in the Courts. Judge Wilson also sits on the Morris County Bar Association Professionalism Committee.

Prior to her appointment to the bench in December 1996, Judge Wilson was Resident Managing Attorney of the New Jersey office of Mound, Cotton & Wollan. Before joining Mound, Cotton & Wollan, she was a member of the law firm of Greenberg Margolis of Rosalind, New Jersey. In her sixteen years of corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration experience, she concentrated in the areas of complex business litigation, complex insurance law, minority shareholder rights, restrictive covenants, environmental law, securities law, franchise law and probate law.

Judge Wilson is a graduate of Stanford University (1966) and Seton Hall School of Law (1980). At Seton Hall, she graduated at the top 5% of her class, won the National Moot Court Competition and was an associate editor of the Law Review, authoring a case note on labor dispute injunctions. Upon graduation from Seton Hall, she clerked for the Honorable Stewart G. Pollock of the Supreme Court of New Jersey.
